This Thursday we have Mass together as it is the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord Jesus: forty days after his Resurrection from the dead, Jesus ascended to the Father to “prepare a place” for us and to get us ready for the Gift of the Holy Spirit given at Pentecost. It is a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics. The Ascension is the Second Glorious Mystery of the Rosary. Check out the considerations in “There Is No Problem…”

Thursday is also the Feast of Christopher Magallanes – he and twenty-one diocesan priests and three laymen were either shot or hanged (+1915-1937) for their association with the Cristero uprising which opposed the anti-Catholic Mexican government in the 1920’s. The Cristero motto was, “Long Live Christ the King and the Virgin of Guadalupe.” This memorial of martyrs has been newly included in the Universal Calendar of the Catholic Church. Holy Martyrs of Mexico, help us to be strong for Christ!
