LITANY OF MARY OF NAZARETH
Glory to you, God our Creator,
breathe into us new life, new meaning.
Glory to you, God our Savior,
lead us in the way of peace and justice.
Glory to you, healing Spirit,
transform us to empower others.
Mary, wellspring of peace, be our guide.
Model of strength,
Model of gentleness,
Model of trust,
Model of courage,
Model of patience,
Model of risk,
Model of openness,
Model of perseverance,
Mother of Jesus, the liberator, pray for us.
Mother of the homeless,
Mother of the dying,
Mother of the nonviolent,
Mother of widowed mothers,
Mother of unwed mothers,
Mother of a political prisoner,
Mother of the condemned,
Mother of the executed criminal,
Woman of mercy, empower us.
Woman of faith,
Woman of contemplation,
Woman of vision,
Woman of wisdom and understanding,
Woman of grace and truth,
Woman, pregnant with hope,
Woman, centered in God,
Mary, Queen of Peace, we entrust our lives to you. Shelter us from war, hatred and oppression. Teach us to live in peace, to educate ourselves for peace. Inspire us to act justly, to revere all God has made. Root peace firmly in our hearts and in our world. Amen

Do you know that there are NINE ways of being an accessory to another person’s sin? By counsel – By command – By consent – By provocation – By praise or flattery – By concealment – By partaking – By silence – By defense of the evil done.

The use of the term “MY BAD” is unmanly and should be dropped by any male who intends to present himself as a trustworthy and respectable MAN. “My bad” sounds like baby-talk: “Me sorry, mommy.” “Me go pottie, mommy.” We should be men and learn to say, “Forgive me, I was wrong.” “I apologize for my error.” This kind of talking, along with certain cultural styles, like sagged pants that reveal boxer shorts and behinds, mumbled speech, a shuffling walk and limp handshake, is part of the softening of American young men.

A young woman in a diner is sitting on the stool at the counter waiting for her order. Her stretchy pants reveal some kind of sentence tattooed over her exposed behind. Is it possible that a woman could be so vulgar as to reveal this in public? Could she possibly be so self-involved and vain that she would think the patrons (including children, elderly people, a priest) would be interested in seeing this!? How sad for American women! How pitiable that she thinks this is what she has to offer! When the Virgin Mary is depicted in art she is always exquisitely beautiful in her modesty – she is covered. And women in previous centuries were elegant and mysterious in the way they dressed and presented themselves. Ever see Emma Thompson in the movie Howard’s End? Talk about a lady?

Come, O peoples from all the ends of the earth,
and together, let us praise
the glorious Assumption
of the Mother of God:
for she has delivered her spotless soul
into the hands of her Son.
Therefore the world,
restored to life by her holy dormition,
in radiant joy celebrates this feast
with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
together with the angels and apostles.
With her all things are filled with joy
and she bestows great mercy upon us.
